Case Studies for Teaching in the Sciences

I attended the Teaching and Learning Conference in Athens, Georgia last week.  One of the handouts had a link for the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science at http://sciencecases.lib.buffalo.edu/cs/

The resource is excellent.  The site has case studies for all science disciplines, including nursing.  There are case studies for all levels of education.  If you are an educator, the site is worth exploring. 

MERLOT OERC (Open Education Resources for Cancer) Portal in Development - OERC India

MERLOT is partnering with physicians and nurses in the country of India to develop a portal for cancer resources.  The website, still in development, is online at http://oercindia.merlot.org/index.html

I and several of my colleagues representing OERC will participate in the Indian Cancer Congress 2013 from November 20-24. As of today,  2700 attendees who have signed up for the Congress. On November 20, I will provide a pre-conference 90 minute hands-on workshop on the MERLOT OERC India portal.  I will also participate in two of the nursing oncology pre-conference sessions.

I look forward to meeting representatives from the Ministry of Health, nursing faculty, and students during the stay in New Delhi.  

There will be have a table at the conference to share information about MERLOT, OERC, and INCTR (International Network for Cancer Training and Research).

New DNP Program at Georgia College

Georgia College is offering a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree this year.  The program begins in May.  The Union Recorder published an article about the degree program today.  I believe that DNPs will be integral in the transformation of nursing care.  Our program focuses on the DNP role of the nurse practitioner.

Thanks to Our Textbook Users!

The sale of our textbook quadrupled the 4th quarter of last year!  Wow!!!  A warm thank you to everyone who purchased the book.  The 4th edition is finished and gone to the publisher.  We tried to take the best of the 3rd edition and make it even better in the 4th edition.  For example, all of the files used for illustration and explanation in the chapters on office applications will be available for users to download.  Office applications include Microsoft Office 2010 and cloud office computing apps. The Affordable Care Act information has been added along with the many changes in the political landscape affecting informatics.
